about

  • WE WANT TO SHARE THE SUPERPOWER OF DANCE WITH YOU AND THE WORLD.

After three mini events in mid January, we are hatching what is next. The intention is to ramp up Dance for Peace with a potent combination of great danceable music, a critical mass of people, and the right place and time. Stay tuned for updates as the vision comes to life!

Future times & locations t.b.d. Envisioning:

    • Public spaces accessible to many people (e.g., transit hubs, parks, other public gathering spaces)

    • Dance for Peace parties at public/private locations. Want to throw a party?!

    • Add-ons to existing events

    • Feel free to offer ideas!

The intention of Dance for Peace is to connect with our common humanity, caring for one another, and solidarity for peace through dance and music. No prerequisites, no expectations, no dance structure or roles. Just expression through movement.

  • An emerging set of values: For starters - compassion, love, ahimsa, and do no harm:

Ahimsa: Respect for all living things and avoidance of violence towards others.

Lokānukampā:  Compassion for the world and all of its people. Combining the Sanskrit/Pali words loka (world, people) and anukampa (compassion, or kindheartedness for all beings).

    &

Primum non nocere: Do no harm

  • Most importantly, this is NOT about me. It’s about WE. Let’s build this together!

My name is Anna Haakon. I’m a solo mom living in the Central District (Seattle) with my son.

Do you feel like the world is falling apart? Are you burdened by fear, doubt, and worry? Do you wish you could do something, anything, to make a difference, or at least to connect with other people who are feeling the same way?

Even if we can’t solve everything, or sometimes anything, we CAN dance. Dance is powerful medicine.

For the past 1.5 years, dance (accented with Tai Chi) has been incredibly healing for me - and those around me. My hope is that it can be healing for others, and be a powerful way to spread love and caring and ultimately peace across the world, one small dance and connection and smile at a time.

Although I’ve been thinking about doing something like this for about a year, it is the Buddhist monks Walk for Peace that inspired me to do this now, in this way. Their message is pure medicine for these times.

Dance for Peace is not affiliated with the Walk for Peace in any way, but my prayer is for peace.

We cannot all walk across the country. But we can dance.

  • Dance for Peace is very much a work in progress. A volunteer, heart-driven effort. More to come here and on social/Meta at handle Dance for Peace Seattle and Dance for Peace.

If you would like to simply show up and either dance or just be present, please do!
